When autumn comes to Savannah, the heat fades and the city becomes a delightful playground for taking part in outdoor activities. The sun shines most days, making it warm and dry. Average highs are in the 70s and average lows are in the 50s, enough for your favorite fall sweatshirt.

Golf in Savannah

With picturesque fairways and challenging layouts, Savannah’s courses offer great golf for players of all levels. The Mary Calder Golf Club offers a nine-hole, high-quality layout where players can improve their skills. Savannah Biking

With its European-type grid of squares and green space, Savannah’s Historic District lends itself to sightseeing by bicycle. Savannah on Wheels offers bike rentals and bike tours to set you up with an unforgettable way to see the city. Park your bike in front of a pub or coffee shop, boutique, or museum. Biking in Savannah is about more than transportation. Explore the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Trail, with six miles of boardwalk, dirt, and wood chip paths. The McQueen’s Island Trail, a rail-to-trail gravel surface, provides a 5.6-mile ride from the Fort Pulaski National Monument to the western end of McQueen’s Island at Bull River. 

Hiking in Savannah

Strolling the squares and parks of Savannah is an inviting activity any time of year, but the fall months are particularly lovely. The trails at Savannah National Wildlife Refuge offer an opportunity to unplug and reconnect with nature. The Refuge is open daily from sunrise to sundown. Skidaway Island State Park provides six miles of trails near historic Savannah along part of Georgia’s Intracoastal Waterway.

Birdwatching

Fall is one of the best times of year for birdwatching when the annual southerly migrations of songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey sweep down Georgia’s coast. Several sites on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail are located in the area. Catch sight of ospreys and woodpeckers on Skidaway Island; Great Blue Herons and Wilson’s plover at Fort Pulaski National Monument; purple sandpipers and plovers on Tybee Island: North Beach and warblers, wood ducks, and kites at the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum & Nature Center

Fall Fest

The Oatland Island Fall Harvest and Cane Grinding Festival takes place on Nov. 19, celebrating celebration Georgia's diverse agricultural traditions. Centered around the 1800's Heritage Homesite, history comes alive with old-time music, demonstrations, and cane-boiling.
