Mild winter weather makes Savannah a wonderful year-round destination. With average daytime temps reaching the low 60s and lows in the 40s in January, you may wear a T-shirt during the day, then don a sweater at night.

But even when temps do drop, there are plenty of activities to help you warm up.

First up is the recently announced Cirque Music Holiday Spectacular at the John Mercer Theatre in the Savannah Civic Center. The one-of-a-kind event is set for Dec. 21 and features all your favorite holiday songs performed with the cast of Cirque Musica.

Tour one of Savannah’s historic homes, such as the Davenport House Museum, the Harper-Fowlkes House, the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters, and the Andrew Low House Museum. At each site, step into the past with a look at the furnishings, architecture, and customs of Savannah’s rich history.

Nothing beats cozying up with a good book. And where better to introduce yourself to new books and authors than at the Savannah Book Festival, set Feb. 17-20, 2022, in Telfair Square. This year’s Feb. 17 headliner is acclaimed author David Baldacci, who has 43 published novels including the most recent “Mercy.”

Of course, coffee or hot tea is always a wonderful way to warm up. Savannah’s numerous coffee shops offer pleasant spots to sit and sip. Savannah Coffee Roasters at 215 W. Liberty St., has been around for 100 years, pouring art into every cup. The Coffee Fox on West Broughton Street offers a perfectly roasted coffee served in an array of caffeine-filled concoctions. Other locations around the Historic District include Foxy Loxy Cafe, Henny Penny Cafe, and Fox & Fig Cafe. Bring your cup to The Sentient Bean at 13 E. Park Ave. to get 25 cents off. It’s good for the environment, too! For a different brew, head to Mate Factor Cafe, 401 E. Hall St., a little gem with cozy little nooks and delicious hot drinks.

Sitting by an outdoor fireplace is another wonderful way to heat Savannah's winter nights. Properties like our Southern Elegance Carriage House offer outdoor seating around a fireplace, along with access to a private, heated swimming pool. The three-bedroom Savannah Charm home provides a walled-in backyard area with a raised fire pit, gas grill, and stainless steel ovens for outdoor entertaining. Heat up the cocoa or throw on the steaks, you’re set with this private courtyard.
