Want some good food? Need a break from kids? How about a cool little dive bar where the locals go? Oh yeah. If you’re on Tybee Island, you’ve got to wander on over to the Wind Rose Café in Tybee. At 19 Tybrisa Street, it is just a half block from the Tybee Pier. Locally owned and operated, this rustic bar is a great casual option for good food, a drink and some lively adult company.
The menu at Wind Rose Café is what you would expect in a bar and there is something for every taste – burgers, chicken fingers, hot dogs and sandwiches for a start. Sandwich options include fried flounder, grilled or fried chicken tenders, crab cake, grilled cheese, and a Philly cheese steak sandwich. And when was the last time you had a corn dog?
Appetizers include buffalo fingers, hot artichoke dip, steamed shrimp, fried mushrooms and cheese sticks. But we are at the beach, so the menu has plenty of seafood options too – including fried flounder, fried shrimp, and fried clam strips. If you can’t make a choice, try the combo option, so you can pick two, or three, or all four! Choose from the “lite” option or go for one of the platters. Plus, there is always a lunch special.
You can dine in (find a table or sit at the bar) at Wind Rose Café in Tybee, and no reservations are ever required. There isn’t a delivery option, but you can easily order your meal to go and pick it up on your way home from the beach. There is a full bar, and the beer on tap is served in ice cold mugs.
Be forewarned, they do allow smoking (at the bar), so it may be a tad hazy. But that just adds to the quirky ambiance of the place. This is basically a bar that happens to serve great food and is strictly for the 18 and over crowd. Kids are not allowed.
