If there's one thing we do well in Savannah, it is throwing a party. We don’t need a special reason, any occasion makes a splendid celebration. This time of the year brings plenty of special events. We’ll run down some of our top events this month.

May 10-11; 17-18; 24-25; and 31: Springtime Tea at the Davenports takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays during May. Learn about tea traditions and experience an early 19th Century tea, served at 5 p.m. in Davenport House’s beautiful courtyard garden. Costumed interpreters join guests for refreshments and conversation.

May 6: Enjoy a grand celebration of Scottish heritage during the Savannah Scottish Games and Celtic Festival at the historic Bethesda Academy. In addition to the athletic competitions, there will be music, dancing, children's activities, food, and fun for the entire family.

May 6: Get in gear for the Skidaway Island Open Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, set from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Skidaway Island Baptist Church.

May 6, 13, 20 & 27: Pick up fresh fruits and veggies for your stay at the Forsyth Farmers Market, held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the south end of Forsyth Park.

May 7: The Doggie Carnival, an annual gathering for dog lovers in Forsyth Park, takes place from noon to 4 p.m. with a Doggie Derby, food trucks, ice cream, games, and more.

May 18: The Riverfront Concert Series continues with a free event starting at 6 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the music. Food trucks and a park bar will be on site. Street parking is available. The DOT Trolley runs until 7 p.m. with a drop-off point steps from the park.

May 19-21: Take part in the monthly arts and crafts fair, with Top Back Car Show Off at Rousakis Plaza on River Street.

May 19: The competition pits parade floats vs. parade goers in the world's oldest, largest, and most fun water fight during the Tybee Island Beach Bum Parade, set from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

May 20: See locally made arts and crafts from noon to 5 p.m. during the Tour de Art Seasonal Art Market. Several businesses in Tybee’s North End Arts District offer specials during the event.
