Get ready for a flag-waving, firecracker of a holiday with an Independence Day stay in Savannah. The Savannah Waterfront Independence Day celebration is one you are sure to enjoy and remember.

The free event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a performance by the 3rd Infantry Division Band from Fort Stewart in Hinesville, GA. Now known as the “Best Band in the Land,” the 3rd Infantry Division Band is a 40-member unit and has a variety of performing groups. As part of its Independence Day performance, its New Orleans-styled Brass Band, the rock band, and the concert band will entertain the crowd.

The band makes regular appearances at both military and civilian events on Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, and the surrounding community. The band also travels throughout the Southeast U.S. as a goodwill ambassador for the government. This organization has performed in Africa, France, Italy, Central Europe, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

After the band’s performance, get ready for the real show to begin - the annual Independence Day Fireworks Show. It starts about 9:30 p.m. and will last about 20 minutes.

Spectators on the waterfront can bring chairs and blankets, but coolers are discouraged. The show takes place from a barge in the Savannah River in front of the Savannah Convention Center. River Street and the ramps will close at 6:30 p.m., and cars parked on the ramps and parking lots will need to remain there until the street opens to traffic after the show.

An amazing way to watch the fireworks is onboard a Savannah Riverboat 4th of July Fireworks Cruise. Boarding starts at 8 p.m. for the 90-minute cruise, which gives passengers an up-close view of the fireworks. Enjoy drink specials while you watch the show from the outdoor, open-air deck or the climate-controlled lower decks.

Another Independence Day Celebration takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 6 at Fort McAllister State Park in Richmond Hill. Step back in time and commemorate Independence Day with the spirit of 1864. This celebration is filled with living history demonstrations, featuring musket firings and the awe-inspiring spectacles of artillery display as well as old-timey games and fresh watermelon.

Book your stay now and prepare to wave the Stars and Stripes.
