Is there a better place than the beach for a star-spangled Independence Day vacation? A Tybee Island stay for this time-honored tradition, Tybee hits all the marks for an all-American celebration, whatever your budget.

Start your celebration by attending “Dark Desert Highway: Eagles Tribute” at the historic Tybee Post Theater on Friday, June 30. What sets the tone for your weekend better than a trip down a musical memory lane? If the Eagles aren’t your jam, a tribute to 38 Special and the Atlanta Rhythm Section takes the stage on July 1. The 1930s-era theater served as a movie house for soldiers stationed at the Army base in the now Fort Screven Historic District.

Pick up a watermelon for your vacation at the Tybee Island Farmers Market, taking place at the Tybee Island Lighthouse from 4-7 p.m. each Monday through October. Vendors offer local produce, baked goods, and arts and crafts.

Cook up your squash, onions, sweet corn, and other market finds in your Tybee Island rental property. The three-bedroom Pelican’s Landing 103 has a farm-style dining table that seats six and a kitchen equipped with new stainless steel appliances. Enjoy your meals steps from the ocean.

The highlight of the Independence Day festivities takes place on Tuesday, July 4. The spectacular Tybee Island Fireworks show goes off with a bang at dark (around 9:15 p.m.). The fireworks are staged from the Tybee Island Pier, and can be viewed easily from any of Tybee Island’s eastern beaches. Bring a beach chair or blanket and settle in for this free event that’s fun for everyone.

The month of July - and the July 4th holiday week - are busy times on Tybee, but there are still vacation rentals available. Book your stay and celebrate the red, white, and blue on Tybee time.
