When strolling Savannah’s streets and squares, do you ever get a desire to glimpse inside one of those historic, stately homes?

85th Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens

Now’s your chance during the 85th Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens on March 26-29.

The tour has taken visitors inside some of the city’s finest homes since 1935. It includes other special events as well, like the anniversary kick-off party on Thursday evening, a low-country boil at Fort Jackson.

Tickets are $45 for each day of the tour and can be purchased online or by calling 912-234-8054. They can be picked up at Tour Headquarters, the Marshall House on 123 E. Broughton St., beginning March 25. Save $10 with the Afternoon Combo Deal.

The 2020 Tour features homes in two of Savannah’s National Register Historic Districts. On Friday and Saturday, the tour focuses on downtown, which is home to the largest urban National Historic Landmark District in the United States. Historic Savannah features 22 oak-canopied squares and 1,600 historically and architecturally significant structures, some dating to the late 18th century.

On Sunday, the tour heads to Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent, two large residential development dating to the early 20th century. As Savannah’s first planned suburban areas, these neighborhoods featured broad streets to accommodate automobiles. The lush canopies and landscaped squares make for a picturesque setting.

The tours are self-guided, so feel free to visit sites in any order and at your own pace. Be aware that some of the dwellings have steep steps and are not handicap accessible.

Each Home & Garden Walking Tour offers five to eight homes and/or garden sites. Some sites are one floor of the home or only a garden, while other sites might include multiple floors and a garden. Homes vary in size, age and architectural style. Occasionally, businesses are included in the tour, but they are typically in addition to the homes and gardens and listed as a Point of Interest.

Of course, you’ll want to make the most of your visit by staying in a property suited for the occasion. Southern Belle Vacation Rentals offers well-appointed rentals in the Historic District, even facing some of its famous squares. Enjoy your walking tours, then put your feet up in one of our charming, comfortable Carriage Houses, homes or apartments.
