Lafayette Row Unit 1

Few vacations homes Savannah are as ideally located as Lafayette Row Savannah vacation rentals. Just off Lafayette Square, which bears the name of the French marquis and Revolutionary war hero, these accommodations are situated in the Savannah Historic District within view of Georgia’s oldest Roman Catholic Church, the architectural marvel known as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

Features of Downtown Savannah Vacation Homes

Newly refurbished and ready for guests, Lafayette Row Unit One has ample space for up to six occupants in its three-bedroom, two-bathroom accommodations. When you first walk into the front door, polished wood floors convey a sense of welcoming warmth while the open floor plan suggests expansive relaxation. Greek Revival-style columns provide decorative accents and delineate divisions between the living room, dining room and kitchen. Graceful curves define the eating bar and hallway, mirroring the bay window across the room. A rich wood mantle frames the adjacent fireplace.

The open kitchen features modern pendant lights above the eating bar, a double sink, a dishwasher, a range, a refrigerator and a coffee maker. Bead board cupboards hold all the culinary implements, dishes, glassware, cookware and utensils you will need during your stay.

The master suite centers on a richly carved, mirrored fireplace. The generous windows and above-door transom flood the room with cleansing light while a ceiling fan helps keep you cool all night long. The plush, queen-sized bed provides a restful oasis at the end of a busy day. An ensuite bath offers a tiled walk-in shower and matching vanity where you can freshen up during your Savannah vacation rentals stay. All your towels and linens are complimentary.

Two additional bedrooms provide comfortable accommodations as well. A shared full-sized bathroom supplies downtown Savannah vacation homes guests with a tub-shower combination and sink for morning ablutions.

The large private balcony outside your front door has space to sit and soak up the sense of history that surrounds the Lafayette Row vacations homes Savannah. Stately ivy-covered brick, lush sub-tropic foliage and the spires of St. John's Cathedral are among the sights to ponder as you and your group enjoy the temperate evening air from your spot in the cat-bird’s seat.

Historic Homes and Sights Near Downtown Vacations Homes Savannah

You need venture no further than your own front yard to immerse yourself in Savannah’s history. Lafayette Square hosts a lovely fountain, donated by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in 1983, that commemorates the 250th birthday of the Georgia colony. If you visit Savannah in March, you will see the waters go green in observance of St. Patrick’s Day.

Several historic buildings bordering the square are open for tours. The most striking is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which towers above the northeastern edge of Lafayette Square on East Harris Street. Although the main building dates to 1873, the famous spires did not come along until about two decades later. Windows of Austrian stained glass, exquisite murals and an impressive altar all contribute to the beauty of the cathedral. You will probably wish to take photos inside and out.

Another wonderful building to see is the Hamilton-Turner Inn, a prime example of Victorian architecture. Featuring Baroque design elements tinged with Italian influences, this edifice borders Lafayette Square on Abercorn Street. Built to exacting standards in 1873 for Samuel Hamilton, it features skylights, a talking tube intercom system and a dumb waiter. Hamilton ordered the installation of indoor plumbing and electricity just a few years after completing construction. It currently operates as a grand inn and restaurant.

The Andrew Low House, just down the street at the southwest corner of Lafayette Square, dates to 1849. In its early years, the Low home hosted such notables as author William Thackeray and General Robert E. Lee. The founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Law, succeeded Andrew Low as a resident of the home and willed the property’s carriage house to the Savannah chapter of the Girl Scouts. The Colonial Dames of America now own the house proper, which is open to visitors.

Another essential stop near downtown Savannah vacation homes and Lafayette Square is the onetime residence of noted 20th century author Flannery O’Connor. Now a museum, the home has undergone restoration to reflect an authentic Depression-era character.

Dining Near Savannah Vacation Rentals

Many downtown vacation homes are convenient to several of the city’s celebrated restaurants, and Lafayette Row is no different. The Mirabelle Cafe, on the corner of East Harris and Abercorn streets, is a great option for coffee, tea and pastries. Clary’s Cafe, a couple blocks south on Abercorn Street, serves classic diner fare for breakfast and lunch. A few blocks east of Lafayette Square along East Charlton Street, the Gryphon restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and sumptuous desserts in an upscale setting. Local dinner options favored by downtown Savannah vacation homes guests include the Public Kitchen and Bar on West Liberty Street, and Fire Street Food on East Perry Street.

The 340 Abercorn property was very spacious and pretty. We loved the wooden floors and kitchen. It was nice being so close that you could walk to everything and we enjoyed seeing all the friendly people walking their pets in the square and by the apartment! We had a great time and loved the location.

We usually stay at a hotel. It was wonderful to have separate rooms at the end of the night for everyone in our family to be able to unwind at the end of the day.

The property is located right of Lafayette square right in the heart of the historic district. It is in an older building and has unique and endearing qualities that are typical of older buildings. The hardwood floors were AMAZINGLY quiet. It is on a somewhat busy street, however things do quiet down after midnight and, the bedrooms are on the back of the building and away from the street. We thought the decor was tasteful and well done and the level of comfort was perfect.
