Show of hands: Who is ready for warm weather, sunny days, beautiful beaches, and ocean breezes?

Tybee Island makes the perfect getaway. The barrier island has been a popular vacation spot since the late 1800s and saw an influx of visitors in the 1920s after the U.S. Route 80 bridge connected the island to the mainland.

That drive onto the island is spectacular with tall palms trees and river grass along the way. With three miles of beaches, its a great place to slow down, relax and get your toes in the sand.

Soak up that Vitamin Sea at one of the four beaches on the island. North Beach, located across from the Tybee Lighthouse and Fort Screven, makes a wonderful place for shelling. Mid-Beach offers seclusion, while South Beach is busier with the Tybee Pier & Pavilion. River Beach offers a different experience with views of the channel, lots of shorebirds, and an adjacent birding trail.

The islands restaurants and bars are open and ready to welcome patrons. Sit on the edge of the water at CoCos Sunset Grille, savor delicious seafood at Bernies Oyster House, and enjoy seafood with a Cajun twist at Bubba Gumbos
